Phu Ninh Buffalo Fighting Festival

Annually, all four villages—Cão, Phú Mãn, Ngọc Trù, and Ngọc Khôi—each purchase one solid black buffalo. Before buying, they must seek a divine sign; only if it's favorable will payment be made. Once purchased, someone becomes an "Ông Cầu" (a dedicated caretaker) and is appointed to meticulously raise and care for the buffalo.

There will be 32 fighting buffaloes competing in head-to-head matches. After the buffalo fight, the losing buffaloes are ritually slaughtered to offer to the deities, praying for favorable weather and abundant harvests. Once the ceremony is complete, everyone gathers to eat right there at the market.
