Dao Xa Elephant Procession Festival

Date & Location
05:30 07/03 - 17:00 09/03.
Introduction
The festival aims to preserve historical values, cultural activities, and the agricultural beliefs of wet-rice cultivation, as well as the worship of water deities by the inhabitants of the Ancestral Land. It's an occasion for local people to commemorate their ancestors who contributed to nation-building and village establishment, and to pray for blessings, good fortune, favorable weather, bountiful harvests, peace for the people, and prosperity for the nation.
Festival rituals
The first part of the festival involves commemorating the merits of the Village's Thành hoàng (Tutelary God) - Hùng Hải Công and the Three Great Kings, who helped the people control floods, along with Princess Quế Hoa. This is followed by the elephant procession, a very solemn event involving 120 participants, complete with a traditional band, palanquin bearers, ritual performers, and villagers. The festival portion features games rooted in local customs; among these, the rice cooking competition is particularly attractive and draws a large audience, largely because contestants must go through the stages of winnowing and sifting before cooking the rice.
